Character Essay on Romeo
This essay will discuss the character Romeo in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Romeo is the only son of the Montague family. He is a teenager that is eager for love and when he first sets eye on Juliet he instantly falls in love with her. In this essay I will discuss why I enjoyed reading about Romeo and how he helped me understand an idea in the play.
This paragraph will discuss why I enjoyed reading about the character Romeo. Romeo is a very impulsive character, he doesn’t think before he acts and he does this throughout the play. An example of this is when he falls in on love with Juliet. It’s impulsive because he was talking about how much he loves Rosaline at the start of the play but when he first meets Juliet he falls in love with her straight away. A quote of this is “Did my heart love till now?” which shows that Rome falls in love with her when he first meets her. This is impulsive of Romeo because he then marries her when only knowing her for about three days. It’s also impulsive of him because he was saying how much he loved Rosaline and when he first saw Juliet he fell in love with her and forgot about Rosaline. These are impulsive acts done by Romeo because he was acting with out thinking and acting quickly as well.
Another impulsive act he does is getting revenge on Tybalt by killing him. “Fire-ey’d fury be my conduct now”. This quote shows Romeos anger towards Tybalt and with out thinking Romeo kills him. If Romeo stayed calm and thought about what he was doing instead of being impulsive then the consequences of this wouldn’t have happened.
When Romeo Gate-Crashed the Capulet party that was very impulsive of him. It is impulsive of him because Romeos family the Montague’s and the Capulet’s have hated each other for years. “Direct my sail! On, lusty gentleman”. This quote show that Romeo is going to the Capulet party. All these acts of Romeos impulsiveness all show why I enjoyed reading about the character Romeo in the play.
This paragraph will discuss how the characters in the play Romeo and Juliet helped me understand the idea of revenge and it’s consequences in the play. An act if revenge starts when Romeo Gate-Crashes the Capulet party and Tybalt sees him and wants to get revenge on him. “I’ll not endure him”, “Such a villain is a guest”, these quotes are referring to Romeo by Tybalt which shows that he hates Romeo and Tybalt wants to get revenge on him. When Tybalt does get revenge, he kills Mercutio instead of Romeo so Romeo gets revenge on Tybalt by killing him. After he kills Tybalt the consequence is that the Capulet’s want revenge on Romeo. “For blood of ours shed blood of Montague”. This quote is what Lady Capulet says after the death of Tybalt and is meaning that she wants revenge on the Montague’s. The ultimate consequence of revenge is that Romeo gets banished form Verona for the killing of Tybalt which is the turning point of the play because it leads to the separation of Romeo and Juliet. All these acts of revenge all inflicted due to the characters of the Montague and Capulet families which helped me understand the idea of revenge and the consequences of revenge.
